European Heritage Label

The European Heritage Label (EHL) is an initiative carried out by the European Union, based on the intergovernmental initiative launched back in 2011. It was established by the Decision No 1194/2011/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council.

The overall goals of the European Heritage Label (EHL) consist of reinforcing the sense of belonging to the European Union in European citizens’, in particular young people, based on the common values and elements of the European cultural history and heritage; of valuing national and regional diversity; and of implementing intercultural dialogue.

The European Heritage Label seeks to highlight the symbolic value and to improve visibility of the sites that have played a significant role in the history and culture of Europe and/or the building of the European Union.
